Unit 6: Bonding and Naming

1) Essential Questions

  • How does the structure of the atom affect its behavior?

Every atoms need 8 electrons for a full outer shell to be stable. If the atom has only 1 electron it’s really reactive because the atom is easy to give the electrons away. Also, if the atom has 7 electrons it’s really reactive too because it needs only one more to make a full outer shell and be stable.

How does the type of bond affect the properties of the substance?

Every atom have it own structure. For example, Ionic bond is brittle because this bond is really strong also, it stronger than others bond because of the crystal, the crystal lattice  form because oppositely charged ions are attracted but if it same charged it will push away.

  • How does this connect to the real world?

This is connect to the real because we see atoms everywhere. For example, we see a lot of ionic bond, covalent and metallic. Ionic bond is like salt and it ionic bond because salt has crystal lattice structure and it’s really strong and brittle. Covalent has low melting and boiling point and it weaker than ionic bond. Metallic bond is like metals because every metals are conductivity and the electrons are freely moving around such as wire.

3) This Poster was (interesting, challenging, difficult, informative), because…

The poster is informative and specific because It needs a lot of information to explains and show that I do understand what I’m doing. Also, it’s specific because I have to focus on one bond only. The bond that I was focusing on is metallic bond.

4) Take a include your Bonding Poster here.
