Properties of Triangles

Pictures of triangles that show different properties of triangles:

Side Angle Side (SAS) Theorem

The Side Angle Side theorem says that when two sides of a triangle and the angle between them are the same as another triangle's two sides and angle between them, then the triangles are the same or congruent.

The problem below shows how to solve for X using SAS, when two triangles are congruent.

Pythagorean Theorem

In a right triangle, the height squared plus the leg squared equal the length of the  hypotenuse.

The problem below shows how to solve for X using the pythagoean theorem formula.

Triangle IGH and FDE are congruent, so we know:

  • IG and FD=6

  • Angle G and Angle D= 116 degrees

  • ED = 12 and ED=HG

  •  X=12

  • 6^2+8^2=c^2

6^2=36

8^2 =64

36+64 = 100

Root 100= 10.

So x =10

Real life example:

SAS theorem is normally uses in architecture and a few other things in our everyday lives.

Real life example:

The pythagorean theorem is used to find many things such as how big a television screen is and if you want to know big your T.V. screen is, you need to use this theorem to help you by measure its length by its height. Once you get the height you have to square both of them, the length and height. When you finish squaring the height and length you need to add them together and square root the answer finding the hypotenuse which is how big your screen is. Inconclution, the pythagorean theorem is used in our everyday daily life.
