Ottoman Empire and ISIS Crisis

Unit Overview:

This unit carries on from the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation to understand what was happening in the Arab world at this time. Students examined the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire through readings and documentary. We then took time to examine the rise and beliefs of ISIS so that students could compare how the Middle East has evolved in recent years.

Personal Unit Overview: What did you achieve this unit?

In this unit, I had learned about Ottoman Empire and ISIS. Ottoman empire conquered lands and powers. When they got the lands they gained more people. I leaned rising and falling of ottoman empire. The golden age of ottoman is when Sulieman was the sultan and in chart of the empire.  I learned about ISIS as well. ISIS is group that support Islam religion strictly. I learned how they control their power as well. Also, they are extremist which they follow religion in extreme way. I get to do the narrative about ISIS to be able to explain what happen and understand more about ISIS.

Enduring Understandings: How do empires become powerful?

They conquered the land and they take control of the people, make them be the soldiers who were good at shooting bow and riding horses, slave, or killed if they want to live they have to pay taxes. Also they take over Constantinople which was well developed city and capital city of Byzantium empire. Furthermore, Sulieman created a law to make their country more organized.
