Grade 9 Wix Reflection

4th Quarter

This quarter we focused on argumentation in differing forms. The first assignment I successfully completed this quarter was an analysis  essay on Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. I analyzed his used of rhetorical and persuasive devices but found it difficult because I had to find specific evidence to support my thoughts. Also, the speech is a little a bit difficult to read and understand. I also created  a public service                 announcemen on ow to help people to not be on their phone all the time.   Moreover, I analyzed  four articles on technology and wrote a persuasive essay about whether Berkeley should adopt a national “Put Down Your Screen Week”. This persuasive essay was interesting because I get to choose my own side and persuade through my writing. In fact, I think I enjoyed this assignment the most as I liked the topic and learning new details about technology use at the same time. Moreover, I wrote a persuasive blog with links and images to convince my readers that video game should be considered a sport.  I liked  this entire unit because I enjoy convincing people. Last but not least, I engaged in a debate about why people should be vegetarians. I did very well on it, and we won because we stated persuasive points and offered a strong rebuttal of the other team’s argument.

LOOKING FORWARD

I’m going to be at Berkeley next year, and I mostly want to continue to focus on writing and more speaking. I would like to learn more about writing different types of essays, for example, narratives, and focus more on speaking and debating on interesting topics. Maybe we should do group read to help us learn because sometime read as a class is a little bit to ask certain questions. We should do some creative videoes like what we’ve done in other classes. I would also like to read more Shakespeare, but we should take time in class to make sure that everyone understands it because old English could be a struggle for some students.
